Welcome

What it do!

The purpose of this blog is to share my experiences with general fitness, most particularly having to do with MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). I've been trying to get in tip-top shape to compete in the near future... However, I still have a long way to go. So, I thought I'd document my experiences that lead to my first fight. And if any of you out there have any feedback on things that I'm doing, please feel free to let me know. Any advice would help!

For the past few months, I've been doing a lot of strength training and trying to gain more muscle mass. In September, I weighed 137. Today, I weigh 150. And I've been careful to only gain muscle weight. My purpose was to get stronger... and to fight at 135 lbs. (Bantam weight) of pure muscle. However, I started gaining muscle weight like crazy, so I decided to try to fight at 145 lbs., for the featherweight division. I think that's more practical for my size anyway....

So, today I'm going to head to the gym to do some strength training. I'm going to work out my shoulders and traps... I usually separate muscle groups and go to the gym 4-5 times a week. For instance, right now I'm doing:

Day 1: chest/biceps,
Day 2: back/triceps,
Day 3: shoulders,
Day 4: legs
Day 5: abs (I've been bad at keeping up with this!!)

For each body part, I normally do 4 sets consisting of 10-8-8-6 reps. Sometimes I go very heavy and do a couple of explosive reps just to feel what it's like.

Then afterwards, I'm going to head over to my boy Aynsley's place to do some light sparring in kickboxing/Muay Thai. We're just going to work on our striking... Punches, kicks, knees, elbows, etc. Should be good stuff.

Alright, well that's all for now. Thanks for checking out my blog and stay tuned as I'll be updating this regularly (I hope).

Throwdown,
Max
